Vivid Sydney is an annual festival of light ideas installation and projections spanning 3 weeks highlighting some of Sydney's iconic and historic sites over Sydney Opera House, Walsh Bay, Circular Quay, The Rocks, North Sydney, Darling Harbour. Over the past few years of success, Vivid Music events have been also introduced.
Hailing from Sydney, it had been 7 years since I had been back 'home' from my travels around Australia. The big city lights was a big contrast to the void and vastness of outback Australia where the the only lights twinkle in the night sky.
Attended by over 3 million visitors, in some places, it feels like walking through a swarm of ants (ala the Opera House). However, the crowds move along slowly and with some patient waiting, you can jocky to set up your camera across the harbour to capture the most iconic scene of all, the Sydney Opera House.
The large white tiled roof sails are perfect canvas to project continually changing light projections that will wow your eyes.
*Fun fact: if you join all the 'sail' roofs, it makes a perfect sphere.
Sydney's harbour also offers many large green spaces with backdrops of brightly lit high rise buildings. Families picnic on the grass and children have space to run towards the light installations with inviting music.
Yes, Vivid Sydney caters for everyone and a must visit.
It's an exciting event of creativity from local and international artists. there are just a few that you have to pay to visit, yet strolling around Sydney's installations, projections events are free to while away your time and praise the beauty of Sydney to fill your soul.
